The year will continue with a Song Recital by James Gilchrist, accompanied by pianist Chris Symons, at The Gateway, Shrewsbury on February 8.

As a complete contrast A4 Brass Quartet will perform at Wem Town Hall and February’s concerts will finish with a flourish when the renowned Zemlinksy Quartet from the Czech Republic performs at The Lion Hotel with a programme of music by Smetana, Janacek and Dvorak.

Lunchtime concerts continue in March with the Sax & Guitar by award winning artists - saxophonist Jonathan Radford, and guitarist Andrey Lebedev: music by Bartok, Villa Lobos, Piazzolla, Charles Mariano and Ralph Towner will be played in the Lunch and Listen series and the Carducci String Quartet will present The Romantic Piano Quintet Series from March 10-12. Pianists Clare Hammond, Peter Caelen and Simon Callaghan will join forces in quintets by Schubert, Saint Saens and Brahms.

Diverse

The Versatility Serenaders will be bringing to life some of the most entertaining and neglected areas of music from the early 20th-century, from the Edwardian recording studio and parlour to concert hall and dance hall: everything from Tin Pan Alley and Hawaiian Waltzes to Ragtime and the Dance Band era – on Sunday March 24 at the Blackburn Theatre, Prestfelde School, Shrewsbury.

With a diverse programme of music by Debussy, Bernstein, Dvorak and Nigel Osborne, the Hebrides Ensemble will introduce a glimpse of these composers’ masterpieces at The Gateway, Shrewsbury on April 26.

In May it’s the turn of the European Union Chamber Orchestra with clarinettist, Emma Johnson at Oswestry’s Holy Trinity Church on Thursday. She will be playing one of Mozart’s greatest concertos, with some other dramatic and exciting music.

Later in the month, Richard Jenkinson cello and Benjamin Frith piano will perform their Beethoven Experience at Concord College, Acton Burnell.

Finally Summer Music by Candlelight by Ex Cathedra will provide a magical, midsummer’s evening of music that will encapsulate summertime.
