Councillor Steve Charmley, portfolio holder for corporate support, said that both the theatre and cinema have gone from "strength to strength".

He said: "In the last quarter it's been the best attendance since the theatre was built.

"I think from the theatre's point of view, the scheduling of events and the pantomime, it's gone from strength to strength.

"The Old Market Hall also goes from strength to strength and is pretty much full all the time."

One of the recent successes is Theatre Severn's latest pantomime.

More than 40,000 tickets have been sold for the panto, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, for the first time. In total 94 per cent of tickets for the 68-show run have now been sold.
