Big names on bill for Theatre Severn

He has appeared in Blackadder and Flash Gordon and now veteran actor Brian Blessed is heading to Shrewsbury.

Tickets have gone on sale for his one-night show which will take place on February 28 at Theatre Severn.

The 80-year-old actor, who was awarded an OBE in the 2016 Queen's Birthday Honours list for services to the arts and charity, is known for his hearty, king-sized portrayals on film and television. His eloquence, wit and booming, operatic voice is bound to enthral the audience from the moment he walks on stage.

He will talk about his career on stage and screen including anecdotes from Flash Gordon, Black Adder, I Claudius and Z Cars and his many appearances in Shakesperean Productions.

He is also an avid climber and has conquered Everest and Kilimanjaro amongst others.

Other big names coming to the theatre include West End star Lee Mead, who first donned the coat in the West End production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat 10 years ago.

On April 27. Lee and his band will takes the audience through the last 10 years of his life. Featuring songs from the classic shows he has starred in, such as The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Legally Blonde, Wicked and songs from from his previous albums, and his brand new album, Lee Mead: Ten Years.

Tickets cost £24.50 although there is a VIP meet & greet costing £51.50.

Fellow actor and the West End's leading lady Kerry Ellis will also be on stage in the auditorium.

She will be celebrating 20 years since her West End debut and will sing songs from Bond, to Bareilles to Bacharach and more, telling stories from her career to date.

She has just released her latest hit album Golden Days, on Sony Music with Brian May, and has starred in shows such as We Will Rock You and was the first British Elphaba in both the West End and Broadway productions of Wicked.

Her many other leading role credits include Nancy in Oliver! and Grizabella in Cats at the London Palladium, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Ellen in Miss Saigon, and Fantine in Les Miserables. She has released several Top 40 albums, and is in huge demand around the world for her concert work.

The concert will be on May 8 and tickets cost £22.

Bringing her brand new stand-up tour to Shrewsbury is Lucy Porter, whose recent TV and radio appearances include QI, Alan Davies' As Yet Untitled, Room 101, News Quiz and The Now Show. She will be on stage in the Walker Theatre on May 19 and tickets cost £15.
