Alexandra Burke was the first Strictly contestant to take on the Argentine Tango of this year’s series.

The singer and partner Gorka Marquez performed the tricky dance to Gotan Project’s Mi Confesion, and received a standing ovation from the audience 38 points from judges.

They were lauded by the expert panel, with Craig Revel Horwood telling Burke: “You never fail to amaze me, that was incredible.”

Head judge Shirley Ballas told the duo: “I felt like I was transported to a nightclub where it was just you two,” adding “extraordinary”.

Viewers felt the same way, labelling Burke “fierce”.

@Triyn2 tweeted: “I absolutely loved that Argentine Tango! @alexandramusic was fierce and danced it incredibly. @gorkamarquez1 that was a stunning routine. It was a Beautiful watch.”

@Louiset1975 posted: “Amazing Argentine tango!!! Well done you!! Should have been 40!!”

@browneyedlass09 wrote: ‘A brilliant Argentine Tango!!!! There should have been a standing ovation by the judges, and you were so derserving of tens across the board. In my opinion you were under marked. A winner all the way.”

And former Strictly professional, James Jordan, labelled it the “best celebrity Argentine Tango ever”.

He tweeted: “Powerful, sexy I loved it … Can’t be less it was brilliant.”
