Jacqueline Wilson and Simon Mayo are the latest authors to visit Oswestry thanks to the independent store, Booka Bookshop.

Simon Mayo is known as an award-winning DJ, now presenting the drive time show on Radio Two, after beginning his career on Radio One.

He is also an accomplished writer with Mad Blood Stirring his first adult novel. It is set in Dartmoor prison in 1815 and is the tale of American prisoners who were awaiting their freedom during the Napoleonic Wars.

His interest in history stems from his degree in History and Politics from the University of Warwick.

Simon Mayo will visit Oswestry to talk about Mad Blood Stirring on April 23 at the Wynnstay Hotel.

Carrie Morris, from Booka Bookshop, said: "We’re delighted to be hosting this lunchtime event with Simon – don’t miss this chance to meet him and hear about the inspiration for his novel. It is an astonishing fictional account of an explosive piece of neglected history."

Tickets for the midday event are £15 with the book or £10 without the book.

Jacqueline Wilson will visit Oswestry on June 9 and is certain to draw her fans from across the decades.

The event at the Wynnstay will begin at 11am with doors open at 10.15am. Dame Jacqueline Wilson will talk about her writing career, her best loved characters and her new book, Rose Rivers.

The former Children’s Laureate, she has written over 100 books and has created some of the most loveable and memorable characters in modern children’s literature, including Tracy Beaker.

Illustrated by Nick Sharatt, Rose Rivers is a new story from the Victorian world of Hetty Feather.

Carrie said: "Every book by Jacqueline Wilson is very special. So is this event. She will not be book signing but there will be plenty of opportunity to ask her questions and every book will include a signed bookplate."

Tickets for the event are £15 with a copy of Rose Rivers, £7 accompanying adult and £3 additional child, redeemable against a book purchase.

This week's Booka Events with Ruth Jones are sold out.
