Wollerton Bowls Club, near Market Drayton, will welcome anyone who is interested as part of the national initiative later this month (May 29 and 30).

A statement said: "Across the country, local bowling clubs will be opening their greens for people to come along and give bowls a go.

"Wollerton Bowls Club is pleased to be participating in this national initiative. You are invited to come along and find out more about crown green bowls and give it a try.

"The last year has been very difficult for many people, with the majority spending more time at home than they were accustomed to. Now the Government is progressing with a gradual easing of the restrictions – though some will remain in place at the time of the event – we are pleased to be able to offer other people the opportunity to visit our green, which overlooks open fields.

"We are conscious however that not everyone will feel confident at this stage to turn up to a venue unsure of how many people will be there. With that in mind, we are asking anyone interested in coming along to book a slot in advance with our club secretary, Sally Glover. Doing this will help us to manage the number of people present at any one time so that everyone will be able to have access to the green without having to wait around first.

"To book your visit to the green, please phone Sally on 01630 661315. It would be helpful, but not essential, if you could please contact her no later than Wednesday 26 May."
