Holding a competition for young writers to send in their stories, with her book Bright Star, artist Louise Poole, of Hinstock

Louise Poole, who lives in Hinstock, near Market Drayton, was inspired to create her first children’s book, Bright Star, after a visiting Shropshire’s Carding Mill Valley and Long Mynd.

There she was treated to the wonderful sight of wild horses atop the hill and was inspired to write after her 12 year-old daughter asked: ‘When was the first wild pony tamed?’

Louise then came up with the idea for her book – a girl from Kazakhstan who tamed horses.

“The book is based on true facts so it is a learning book all about the culture and history of taming wild ponies,” she added.

Louise is now holding a writing competition and winners will receive a copy of ‘Bright Star’.

She said: “My kids are always writing stories and they are all off at the minute so it’s good to do something creative.”

Children aged seven to nine can write 100-200 words, children aged 10-12 can write 200-500 words.

Stories must be emailed to overthehedgeart@gmail.com by February 28.

The winner will be announced by March 11 at www.overthehedgeart.co.uk
