The Whittington Open Gardens event on May 6 and 7 is a personal joy for one of those taking part.

Barbara Molesworth and her husband, Doug, started opening their garden at Byeways in Whittington many years ago, attracting hundreds of visitors.

When former village head, Mr Molesworth, passed away, his wife kept on the tradition until she moved out of Byeways and into a bungalow built on part of the large garden. There she created a completely new garden.

Now she had joined forces with the new owner of Byeways, which will open again, along with hers at the adjoining, Garden Croft.

"Opening both gardens gives an opportunity to see the mature garden at Byeways, a family garden with a woodland walk and peaceful sitting areas and to compare it with the relatively new and eco-friendly garden next door," she said.

There will be entertainment by the Kinnerton Morris Men on the Sunday and the Haslington Folk Orchestra on the Monday and plants for sale.

Refreshments will be available at both gardens with proceeds from them to St John the Baptist Church. Entrance to the open gardens is by donation to Save the Children.
