There was an outdoor Christmas market featuring a children’s mini fairground, a Santa’s Grotto and a shed full of children’s activities.

St John’s Church held their Christmas Fair in the Civic Centre’s main hall and Whitchurch Library ran a Christmas-themed crafts workshop.

Throughout the day people in Watergate were “filling baubles with love” to raise funds for Midlands Air Ambulance and Whitchurch Community Hospital.

Finishing touches were made to the host of lanterns taking part in the parade. And the town’s St Alkmund’s Church hosted its annual crib festival.

Carols were sung and leading the audience were the cast of Whitchurch’s Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society.

The finale was the switching on of the lights, led by Tony Neville, mayor of Whitchurch, and Citizen of the Year, 82-year-old Rose Snell.
