Whittington Castle near Oswestry is steeped in historical tales of bloody battles, treachery, deaths, ghostly visits and paranormal activity.

Last week a team from Search for the Truth spent a night at the 13th century fort in a bid to catch a glimpse of the phantom blacksmith in his leather apron, the ghostly children who are regularly spotted peering out of an upstairs window or the medieval knight alleged seen standing on the bridge.

Dan Moss, host and lead investigator, said: "We're going around six different locations to see if they're really haunted and conducting paranormal investigations. We chose Whittington Castle as a location because there's lots of folklore eye-witness accounts."

In 2016, Yvette Fielding and her team from Most Haunted, including "demonologist" Fred Batt, spent a night at the ancient castle where they encountered the ghost of a drowned soldier.

"It's completely different from Most Haunted," Dan said. "We turned up on Wednesday to film a re-enactment with Simon DeVay, who played our medieval knight, and he brought along his wolf. We returned the following day for a full lock down investigation.

"I can't yet reveal what we found but it will all be revealed later this year."

Search for the Truth starts on October 24 on sky channel Made TV and Freeview channel 7. Whittington Castle is the last in the six-part series.
