The seaside was brought to Market Drayton’s street market complete with buckets and spades and sand.

As part of the event traders were invited to join in with the theme by wearing their swimming costumes, bringing a rubber ring, or paddling in their own canoe.

LSD Promotions, which runs the market every Wednesday in Market Drayton, said: “Continuing with our theme of summer specials, Wednesday August 23 was chosen with the family in mind as we brought the seaside to Market Drayton as our regular street market offered a fabulous day out at the beach.

“There was sand, buckets and spades, water-play, paddle boats, deckchairs for mum and dad, sweets, treats and ice cream, as well as the usual street market stalls. We may live in the Midlands but we didn’t want to miss out on the fun.”

In June a mid-summer festival took place on the same day as the market. Extra traders were invited and there was live music, birds of prey, a living statue and a dance performance.

A ‘hunt the gingerbread man’ competition also took place, with up to 50 boxed and wrapped gingerbread men hidden in boxes on and around stalls.

Speaking earlier in the summer, Dermot McGillicuddy, from LSD Promotions, said: “The market is going well. It is a nice street market – it is probably one of Shropshire’s best street markets.”

“I love Market Drayton. Its market is great and its small indoor market is good too.

“It is a great thing for Market Drayton. It helps make a Wednesday become the town’s busiest day.”
