Organised by Pets as Therapy, the fun dog show will include competitors of all breeds at The Tern Valley Vintage Machine Trust's 38th annual show.

Bosses hope that it will be a fun day out that raises awareness of the positive effects that caring for animals can have on those suffering with dementia and cancer.

Pets as Therapy co-ordinator Ann-Marie Jones said: "Therapy pets can help people communicate and it can also help lower blood pressure."

The national charity works with hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes and schools. The charity uses dogs to help people who find it difficult to speak in public.

The dog show will be part of the Tern Valley Vintage Machine Trusts annual show, which will take place next weekend on August 12 and 13 at Chetwynd Deer Park in Newport.

The event will feature a children's play area with bouncy castles, trade stalls, bar and catering facilities, model displays, cars, tractors and military vehicles.

The dog show is open to all and will be judged by Ms Jones. Those interested in joining in can sign up on the day.

Miss Jones said: "Any dog can enter - it doesn’t have to be a pedigree. It's just a nice day out".

The Tern Valley Vintage Machinery Trust was formed by Machinery enthusiasts in a garden shed in 1979. They aimed to provide help and advice on restoration projects.

The annual show has been running for 38 years and was set up to allow members of the group and the public to exhibit their vehicles and static displays.

The show goes on from 10am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday next week.

Fellow co-ordinator for Pets as Therapy Janet Jones said "It'll be great family day out, there are loads of attractions."

There is free car parking and tractor and trailer rides are available onto the show ground.

Weekend camping is available from August 11 to August 14. This costs £50 for two people and includes show admission.

Tickets cost £8 for adults, £7 for seniors and £4 for children.
