Market Drayton's Rock and Bowl music festival put back because of Covid

A popular Shropshire music festival has been postponed because of the coronavirus crisis but organisers hope to salvage some of the summer with an event later in the year.

Rock and Bowl in Market Drayton, which has grown year on year since its inception in 2009 at a bowling green outside a pub in the town, usually takes advantage of the May Bank Holiday, but organisers took the decision not to risk that this year.

A statement said: "Well, 2020 was a really tough year and the beginning of 2021 has been no picnic either, but due to recent announcements by the UK Government there is now some light at the end of this tunnel.

"However due to full restrictions not being lifted until June we are unable to hold Rock and Bowl 2021 on the May Bank Holiday as planned. We really don't want to skip another year, so we are considering two options for Rock and Bowl 2021 for the August Bank Holiday.

"We can either hold a full Rock and Bowl festival event or have live bands broadcast direct to you as an amazing online event. These options are all dependent on any possible future changes to Covid restrictions.

"We will monitor the situation and look to decide as to what that event may look like in the next two months.

Support

"We are sure you understand, and we hope we have your support which really is needed even more this year.

"Anyone new wishing to support this or next year's event please feel free to contact us (rockandbowlfestival@gmail.com).

"We can't be more excited at the potential for returning to live music events and the festival in particular so we hope that the main ingredient (you, the audience) share that excitement and join us in August 2021.

"All tickets still in hand from 2020 will be valid for the corresponding days if we go ahead with a live event. If not then you can carry over to 2020.

"Rock and Bowl 2022 will be held on the first weekend in June due to the changes in bank holiday dates."
