And her hard work has paid off – with the mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Peter Nutting, officially opening the club this week.

Georgina Allen-Brown, from Shrewsbury, said: “Unfortunately in December 2018 my music role at a local primary school was made redundant where I had run a very successful singing club with around 50 children in it, for the past 15 years.

“The children and parents were devastated and so the local vicar offered me the hire of the church next to the school to run the singing club from in order to keep the children singing. Our new club is called Mrs AB’s Community Singers.

“It has been a huge success and the support from the parents has been amazing. The children have designed a logo to go on the club T-shirts which a local company, Deco Stitch, are organising.”

And in a short time, the club has gone from strength to strength and is now lined up to appear at Shrewsbury Food Festival on June 29.

“We will be performing in the Quarry at 12.30pm,” added Georgina.

The choir is based at The Emmanuel Church and meets every Monday straight after school till 4.30pm

Georgina added: “The focus is on fun and building confidence and singing solo’s. All children in year 4-6 from the local community are welcome They could either contact the church direct or pop in during the session time and pick up a registration form.”
