Europe to play Birmingham

Swedish rockers Europe will play Birmingham next month.

Fronted by Joey Tempest, the quintet are best known for hit songs such as Rock the Night, Carrie, and The Final Countdown.

The group formed in 1979, and first broke into the mainstream upon winning the Swedish talent competition Rock-SM in 1982.

They have since released 11 studio albums, three live albums, and three compilations.

Europe rose to international fame in the 1980s with their third album, 1986's The Final Countdown, which has sold over 3 million copies in the United States and 15 million copies worldwide.

The group went on hiatus in 1992, but announced their official reunion in 2003.

Europe will play Birmingham's O2 Institute on September 19.
