Geoff Moore will be the VIP guest when bands take to the stage at the Hard Rock Halloween event near Oswestry on November 4 in a fundraiser for the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

Mr Moore, from Oswestry, has been a youth worker for 30 years, has received several awards for his work and his volunteering and currently manages youth services in Powys.

He also cares for his partner, Karen, who has MS and is in a wheelchair.

Musician, Kev Williams, one of those organising the event said Mr Moore is a cancer survivor and lifelong friend.

"He had open heart surgery in 2004 to remove a tumour from between his heart and lungs. He received the all clear but last year the cancer returned and he had to have emergency surgery."

"After five months of intense chemotherapy, Geoff’s tumour has stabilised but is currently inoperable."

He said Mr Moore was undeterred and back at work and had returned to his love of martial arts, for which he has been an international play and teaches and trains at Team Elite, a mixed martial arts club.

"He is working towards his third dan in Jujitsu and sixth dan in Judo albeit slower than before and battling fatigue and side

effects of chemo. Karen remains a tower of strength offering support along with his daughters, his friends and his extended Judo family across the world. He is eternally grateful to the Lingen Davies Centre and staff for their help, treatment and support."

Artists for the Hard Rock Halloween evening are local band Wasted Fate, Mullet from Telford, Abandon from Mansfield, Mistreated from Midlands and singer Kira Scott who will be doing acoustic sets in between band changeovers.

"All artists will be travelling and playing at their own expense to perform at this event, to raise money for the charity. Compere for the evening will be Keith ‘Rock Reaper’ Reynolds, organises Oswestry's annual Gigfest."

Tickets, £10, are available from Lita Williams 07944933337 or Oswestry outlets, Music Makers, Rowanthorn, or Hartshorns.
