As part of Powysland Museum’s latest exhibition, ‘The Vikings and Wales – Myths, Legends, Facts and Finds’, the historic re-enactment of the Battle of Buttington will be held at the showground at Powis Castle.

The battle is just one of the events taking place on Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm. Other events include Viking camps, demonstrations and other battles.

This is a unique event celebrating the historical past of both Wales and Denmark, which has been organised by the museum in conjunction with Welshpool Town Council and supported by Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust.

It will see 250 to 300 re-enactors taking part in setting up a main Viking camp as well as two smaller Saxon and Welsh camps showing 10th century life. There will also be craft stalls and demonstrations as well as a programme of combats and conflicts on the battlefield. In the modern section of the site, refreshments will be for sale but people can bring their own picnic.

Admission to the event is free but parking on site is £10 per car so visitors are encouraged to park in town and walk to the venue.
