St Patrick's Day is nearly upon us - and celebrations are taking place across the region to mark the Irish saint day.

With food festivals, parades and themed nights at pubs across the region, there's plenty of places to grab a pint of Guinness to celebrate the occasion on March 17.

March 9 to 17 - St Patrick's Festival, Birmingham

Birmingham's annual St Patrick's Day parade will turn the streets of the city into a sea of green as part of the annual festival.

The launch party will take place on Saturday, March 9 at Holiday Inn on Smallbrook Queensway.

The parade itself will take place on March 17 from 12pm until 2pm along Digbeth Hight Street.


A confetti blast will mark the start of the parade with music coming from the St Pat Rocks Stage in Zellig Car Park.

The programme will be headlines by singer/songwriter Finbar Furey with other acts including Joe Broughton's Conservatoire Folk Ensemble,The Reel Note and John Joyce, Rackhouse Pilfer, The Destroyers, Annagry and more.

In The Emerald Village on Bradford Street car park there will be children's activities, a petting zoo and a funfair for children to enjoy.

Birmingham’s biggest street food names serving up a feast on the day, including Galloping Gourmet, Moma Bear Wings and Tings, Viva La Toastie, Frank Corn Dogs, Magiamo Wood Fired Pizzas, and Eat Dutch, plus the Double Decker Bus Bar on The Emerald Village and several outdoor Guinness bars on the St Pat Rocks area.

March 11 to 18 - The Old Crown, Birmingham

Birmingham's oldest pub will be holding two events to celebrate St Patrick's Day.

On March 11 visitors can take part in a whiskey tasting evening sponsored by Jameson Irish Whiskey.

Then on March 17, revellers can head to the pub for their annual Parade Day Party.

The event will feature live music from The Grandmaster, Ire-Ish, James Reidy, Peaces' Douglas Castle and more.

March 15 to 17 - Hennessey's Bar, Birmingham

Ireland's leading folk-rock band make their debut appearance at Hennessey's bar to kick off the St. Patrick's weekend celebrations on March 15.

All Folk’d Up offer fans an eclectic mix of classic sounds from Folk and Rock music traditions, while still sprinkling their own unique, modern twist.

The weekend culminates on March 17 with live music from O'Fibbs, Heed, Cairde, Lampa and The Father Teds.

Entry is free until 1pm when visitors have to pay on the door.

March 15 to 17 - Slug and Lettuce, Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton's Slug and Lettuce are set to celebrate their first St Patrick's Day since opening last year.

Attendees on March 17 can enjoy an open mic event as well as drinks offers throughout the weekend.

March 15 to 17 - The College Arms, Birmingham

Head to The College Arms this St Patrick's Day weekend for three days of themed fun.

The weekend kicks off on March 15 with an Irish DJ set, before March 16 sees the venue hosting a live screening of the Six Ntions match between Ireland and Wales.

There will be a free buffet as well as an Irish sing-a-long session to enjoy.

The event ends on March 17 with live music and drinks offers.

March 15 to 16 - The Electric Cinema, Birmingham

Celebrate St Patrick's day with two iconic films at The Electric Cinema in Birmingham.

On March 15 the cinema will screen Guy Ritchie's Snatch followed by The Blues Brothers on March 16 in association with Jameson Whisky.

March 15 - Odfellows Wine Bar, Shifnal

March 16 to 18 - Central Square Nightclub, Telford

Enjoy a long St Patrick's weekend going at Central Square Nightclub.

On March 16 head to the venue for their Just Party event with live music from Ross The Boss and DJ Tony Jey.

Over 28's can enjoy free entry before 1am.

The festivities continue on March 18 with the Monkey Mondays St Paddy Special with DJs Rikki B and Shuttsie.

March 16 to 17 - The Premier Suite, Cannock

Enjoy live music from traditional Irish bands at The Premier Suite this St Patrick's Day.

There will be performances from The Green Hot Clovers as well as Dempsey Lot on March 16.

There will also be dancers, a pipes and drums band, as well as an Irish supper and traditional whiskey and gins.

On March 17 head to the venue for a full Sunday roast and Irish banquet with love music from Clanna Gael and Party Celtica.

There will also be a magician and dancers to entertain the kids.

March 16 - Bongo's Bingo at The Hangar, Wolverhampton

Bongo's Bingo is back in Wolverhampton for St Patrick's Day.

Boyzlife will be in attendance at the event, so you can expect to hear hits such as When The Going Gets Tough, You Needed Me, Flying Without Wings, Uptown Girl and more.

March 16 - Wolverhampton Racecourse

Enjoy an evening of racing at Wolverhampton Racecourse's Luck of the Irish event.

There will be after-racing entertainment the event where you can sing along to iconic hits such as The Irish Rover, Whisky in The Jar, The Fields of Athenry, Galway Girl and many more.

March 16 - Bullring and Grand Central, Birmingham

On March 16 you can celebrate St Patrick's Day at Bullring and Grand Central with an exciting display of music and dance.

Enjoy performances by Joe Broughton's Conservatoire Folk Ensemble and Celtic Feet Irish Dancers between 12.30pm and 3.30pm, on the lower mall outside Selfridges.

The Bull will also be dressed in his St Patrick's Day best, so be sure to stop and get a #Bullfie with him.

Manhattans welcomes St Patrick's Day will a celebratory event to gear up for the big day.

There will be a £250 cash giveaway as well as drinks deals throughout the night including a baby Guinness for £2 all night.

March 16 - The Buttermarket, Shrewsbury

Head to The Buttermarket in Shrewsbury for a night of St Patrcik's fun.

There will be themed cocktails, shots, decorations and giveaways to get you in the party spirity.

March 17 - Bar Sport, Cannock

Bar Sport’s annual St Patrick’s Day Hooley returns with a live Irish party band, DJ, Irish dancers, an Irish fiddler, stew and more.

The venue will open from 8am to serve Irish breakfast and Guinness as well as a selection of Irish whisky and gin.

From 9pm Irish band Party Celtica will perform followed by a DJ until 1am.
