Stitch a tapestry bee for FREE as part of the city-wide 'Bee Yourself' project

Join us for a FREE drop-in workshop with needlepoint tapestry artist Tina Francis in The Hive Cafe & Bakery 11-1! Just turn up on the day. All welcome. Great for families. Kids age 7+.

The aim of the Bee Yourself project is to bring together 1000 people from across Birmingham to craft tapestry bees for a collaborative tapestry artwork which connects Birmingham's people and places, cultures, stories and heritage. These 1000 individual bees will be stitched together into one single artwork by needlepoint tapestry artist Tina Francis.

The final artwork will be on display at The Hive in the Jewellery Quarter from July 2019. Participants are invited to come to the launch day and celebration event on Saturday 29 June, anytime between 10am & 4pm. Bring family and friends!

The New Standard Works is a recently restored grade II listed factory in Vittoria Street in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter (B1 3PE). You’ll find The Hive on the ground floor; a creative space with free heritage exhibitions and a craft 'make & take' station, an organic Café & Bakery and a Makers' Studio. In 2019 we’ll be welcoming the first Jewellery Quarter bees into hives in our rooftop garden. #JQBeesAreComing

There are 20,000 species of bees in the world; including 270 species in the UK?

We love the fact that every one of the 1000 bees stitched during the project will be unique, just like its stitcher!

Former occupants of the New Standard Works factory, dating back to 1879, include; jewellers, silversmiths and industrial innovators who migrated from Canada, Moldova, Poland, Germany and from across the UK to set up their businesses in a thriving industrial city.

Where will all our tapestry bees come from? We can’t wait to find out!
