The festival, Knucklas17, will take place at the site of Knucklas Castle in Knighton on August 19.

Throughout the day, there will be demonstrations of Iron Age crafts, including the carnyx, a wind instrument used in the Iron Age.

Internationally-acclaimed trombonist and carnyx enthusiast John Kenny will be the principle guest at the festival.

Festival spokesman Michael Green said: “The glorious Teme Valley will again echo with the majestic sound of the Celtic Carnyx. This astonishing musical instrument is a monster, standing six-feet tall and having a range of eight octaves. The 'bell', from which its sound comes was always fashioned as an animal's head.

"Its voice could well have been heard along the Teme in the past, but if it was, it would have been some 2,000 years ago."

Visitors will be able to try their hand at a number of Iron Age themed activities including cave-painting, thumb-pot making, spindle spinning, face–painting, and treasure hunting.

There will also be live music, story-telling and poetry.

Food and drink will be available including organic beef and lamb burgers, vegetarian meals and salads and locally brewed beer and cider.

Tickets for the event can be bought online from knucklas17.org or in person at local outlets listed on the website. Cheaper early bird tickets are available via the website.
