St Patrick's Day: Top places to celebrate in the Midlands and Shropshire

St Patrick's Day is nearly upon us - and celebrations are taking place across the region to mark the Irish saint day.

For the top events taking place across the Midlands and Shropshire, see below:

St Patrick's Week Irish Food and Drink Festival - Bar Sport, Cannock

Running all week long, this town centre event sees celebrations primarily kicking off on Thursday, with an Irish breakfast from 9am and a St Paddy's Warm Up Party from 8pm - there will be a live Irish band performing at the evening event, to which there is free entry.

On Friday, the bar will host a 'St Patrick's Eve Party', as well as the Cheltenham Gold Cup Day.

Saturday is the main event. The town centre venue will open at 9am for Irish breakfast and Guinness. There will be live Irish music from midday, and the England v Ireland rugby match screened from 2.45pm.

There will then be live music from 4.15pm and the annual St Patrick's Day Party in the Premier Suite from 7pm.

On Sunday, there will be an Irish family Sunday lunch in The Premiere Suite.

St Patrick's Day Evening Races and live music - Wolverhampton Racecourse

Irish band The Murphy's Marbles will play live music between and after the races.

The event will also be showing Six Nations' games England versus Ireland and Wales versus France ahead of the racing.

Gates open at 3.45pm, with the first race starting at 5.45pm and the last race taking place at 8.45pm.

A variety of packages are on offer.

Hennessey's Bar - Birmingham

Digbeth bar Hennessey's will host a St Patrick's Day party on Saturday.

The day's activities will begin with screenings of Birmingham City FC at home, and England v Ireland in the Six Nations.

Live music then follows from 5pm, with O'Fibbs, Celtic Clan and The Father Teds then DJ Terry till the 'wee' hours.

Entry is free until 5pm, after which time it is £5 on the door.

Block Party St Patrick's Day Rave - Multiple clubs, Wolverhampton

Four parties are taking place across Wolverhampton city centre this Thursday in celebration of St Patrick's Day.

Sponsored by Wolves Students' Union, events are happening at Yates and Yates Terrace, Popworld and The Outback.

Entry costs £6 which grants entry to all events.

St Patrick's Day with rugby and Skaburst - The Lamb Inn, Telford

A range of drinks offers will be on offer at Wrockwardine Wood pub The Lamb Inn, in addition to live screening of the England vs Ireland rugby match.

Live music from band Skaburst will then entertain guests from 9pm.

Muggy Mike - Religion, Walsall

Love Island and Celebrities Go Dating star Muggy Mike will be at Walsall's Religion nightclub for a meet and greet this Saturday.

All drinks will be two-for-one.

NHS staff, hospitality staff and students will all be granted free entry.

St Patrick's Day Disco - Hilly House, Dudley

Himley Road pub The Hilly House will host a screening of England vs Ireland in the Six Nations.

There will then be a DJ playing music from 7pm till late.

Four pints of Guinness will be on sale for £11.

Aldridge Sailing Club will be hosting a quiz night this Saturday from 7.30 till 11.30pm.

Entry costs £5 which includes a fish and chips supper.
