Battlefield 1403, in Shrewsbury, will have sold about 500 locally grown pumpkins by the end of the week which will be carved and displayed in homes around the county.

Manager Meg Jagger said it is the first time in the company's 10 years that is has fully embraced the popular festival.

"We've never done anything like this before so we decided to launch the Battlefield Pick Up a Pumpkin event," she said.

"We try to source everything locally so we got our pumpkins from a local farm in Shrewsbury. They have been hidden among straw bales that families have to find.

"It's been hugely successful for us. This year is our 10 year anniversary but lots of people still don't know we're here. So, this was a great way to get families here and experience what we're all about."

There is also an opportunity to take a ride on the tractors, meet the farm's animals, take a seat in the Wrekin Gaint's Chair and explore the enchanted nature trail which features a bug hotel, giant's telephone, pixie pans and witches weave.

Meg added: "By the end of the event we'll have sold between 400 and 500 pumpkins which is an 80 per cent increase on what we usually do so it's been a great success. It's been great to see local families here."

And Battlefield 1403 is now looking ahead to Christmas.

On November 24 it is holding a Christmas taster fair where the public can sample a huge range of products from the company's suppliers.

There will also be a Santa's grotto and a festive performance from Shrewsbury Cantata Choir.
