Gardens revamp under way at Telford Town Park

Telford & Wrekin Council is carrying out the work at the Chelsea and Maxell Gardens this month.

As part of the Telford 50 Legacy Fund project funding, pathways will be resurfaced in the Maxell gardens first and then lead through to the Chelsea gardens.

The authority says it hopes the work encourage more visitors to explore them fully.

Recently a number of new information boards have been put up within the award-winning gardens, providing visitors with facts and figures and an insight into their history.

Councillor Rae Evans, cabinet member for people services, visitor economy & partnerships said: "It’s a fabulous year for Telford. As the town turns 50, we’re excited to see the improvements made at Telford Town Park through the Telford 50 legacy project."

The council has also hailed the support of the Friends of Telford Town Park in helping to maintain the gardens, as showcased at the Sakura Festival earlier this year, which saw hundreds of people enjoying the cherry blossom and Japanese-themed events in the garden.

During the work, visitors will only be able to go to one garden at a time as the resurfacing takes place over a five to six week period.

Following the upgrade, it is planned to hold a community planting day where a variety of bulbs will be planted alongside the pathways to further enhance the gardens. Anyone who would like to get involved with the planting can e-mail telfordtownpark@telford.gov.uk.

In addition to the work in the gardens the bandstand in Telford Town Park will also see a revamp.

Scaffolding was being put up this week to assist in the replacement of dislodged or missing tiles.

Work also includes the instalment of a snow guard as a safety precaution during the winter period.
