The Field to Fork Festival will make its debut at Harper Adams University on Satruday, April 28. It will include a wide range of workshops, sports and demonstrations all intended to entertain while educating the public on the food production process.

Organisers said the festival will celebrate and explore the story of food, today and in the future, and also how future generations can be taught about sustainable farming methods.

Activities will cover food, farming and fun, with dozens of slots including lectures on animal welfare, potato production and micro robots among others.

There will also be simpler fun with Nerf gun wars and Go Karts. The university's working farm will play a role in many of the activities.

Live music will punctuate the day, with performances throughout from acts including Shropshire's own the Reverie.

The festival's market area will showcase the region's passionate food and drink producers, while entrepreneurs will display their business innovations at 'Harper Street'. The soil hall will have scores of tractors and heavy machinery.

Organiser Beth Heath said: "It's looking absolutely amazing, about 7,000 people have already registered to say they will be coming but people can show up on the day.

"There will be lots of activities for all the family, and 95 per cent of them will be free. There is free parking and free entry too.

"A key thing is that the university will be open to the public as well, so everyone can enjoy."

Parking for the event is at the nearby Newport Showground, and shuttle buses will run between the university and the ground regularly. There will also be shuttles every half hour from Newport town centre.
