Wales Comic Con, Glyndŵr University, Wrexham - review and pictures

Batman, The Joker, Spiderman and more than a few zombies were among the thousands who flocked to Wrexham's Glyndŵr University for the 10th annual Wales Comic Con over the weekend.

The first day on Saturday was bathed in glorious sunshine which was great news for the ice cream vendors but not so good for the various head-to-toe outfitted cosplayers, particularly a girl in a leather-look Catwoman outfit.

Among the stars who had queues of fans waiting in line for autographs, selfies and meet-and-greet moments were two former Doctor Whos, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann; the son of a Doctor Who, Gotham star Sean Pertwee; Gotham's young Bruce Wayne, David Mazouz; Hollywood star and Titanic villain Billy Zane; Harry Potter star and TV personality Warwick Davies; and Sherlock and Bond villain Andrew Scott.

Among Saturday's highlights during Q and A sessions was David Mazouz being persuaded to do an impromptu Batman rap by Gotham co-star Welsh actress Erin Richards.

During the Lord of the Rings talk, the elfin Lord Haldir -AKA actor Craig Parker - admitted he wasn't a fan of JRR Tolkien's original books, and hinted they may have done some folks a favour by providing a movie alternative.

Liverpool-born Paul McGann, who played the Doctor in the 1996 US-Canadian TV movie, has been warmly accepted into the 'Whoniverse' thanks to his many audio book adventures featuring the Time Lord.

However, he is also revered for his role opposite Richard E Grant in the classic comedy Withnail and I, and revealed that he would be interested in a sequel looking at what had happened to the pair of down-on-their-luck actors after the film left them in the late 1960s, perhaps revisiting them in their 60s. But the straight-talking actor, currently a regular in Holby City, admitted that Grant's character, the hard-drinking Withnail, would probably have died before reaching his 60s.

As ever at a comic con, the best fun was to wander the site marvelling at some of the costumes as dedicated fantasy fans posed for countless photos.
