The railway’s fleet of heritage steam locomotives will be in full steam, taking passengers on journeys through the Severn Valley between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster from May 27 to June 4.

Children can pick-up I-spy quiz sheets from booking offices and test their powers of observation, spotting landmarks as they travel along the line.

A treasure hunt challenge and colouring activities await visitors at The Engine House Visitor Centre, and once the bounty has been found, there are interactive exhibits to explore, from the Peter’s Railway Young Engineers Centre to the Travelling Post Office as well as the SVR’s reserve collection of heritage steam locomotives.

While there, families can also enjoy some family-favourite films, showing during the week at The Engine House’s cinema, and the outdoor, railway-themed play area is available for children to let-off steam.

A family-friendly menu is on offer at The Engine House’s Flag and Whistle Food Stop, with its panoramic views out over the Severn Valley and children can eat free on June 2 when adults purchase a main meal.

Highley residents can come along and gain free admission to The Engine House, without a ticket to travel. Free admission covers up to two adults and up to four children. Proof of address, such as a utilities bill will be required.

Clare Gibbard, the SVR’s marketing and communications manager, said: “We’re offering a real treat for visitors of all ages this half-term, from fun and exciting rides on board our heritage steam trains, to plenty of family activities and challenges, so there will be plenty to see and do, whatever the weather.”
