The dancer, who used to live on the north Shropshire border next Whitchurch, teamed up with Shane Ritchie in the latest trial in Gwrych Castle on the Welsh coast.
Trapped in individual boxes, they had to get stars off bolts using only their tongues as creepy crawlies and critters of every size and description were poured onto their heads.
In the six tests they faced everything from mealworms and locusts to scorpions and snakes.
But it was last test that freaked out AJ as 10 rats were poured over his head.
Before the show started his brother, Curtis, revealed that AJ biggest fears were being in confined spaces and - rats.
However both he and Shane Ritchie, kept their cool and managed to get 11 stars, meaning 11 meals for their camp mates.
They tucked into venison as their last meal before the evictions began.
The trial repaired the friendship between the two men, who had a spat 24 hours before over the washing up.
Other celebrities in the castle include athlete Sir Mo Farrah, singer Russell Watson, Beverley Callard from Coronation Street and Radio One Radio DJ Jordon North.
The series producers had to switch filming from the heat of the Australian jungle to a cold Welsh Castle because of Coronavirus.
AJ, whose parents run a dance studio near Whitchurch, also revealed last night that he had been so fed up with the smelly camp toilet, he had watched campmates use the loo, then inspected it afterwards to see who hadn't cleaned it after using it.
The first celebrity was voted off by the public.
