From Indiana Jones escaping the boulder to the heartbreaking conclusion of Schindler’s List, there’s no doubting the pedigree of their picks.

People voted in their hundreds to narrow down the list of 10 - and five of those will be returning to the big screen later this month.

The survey was carried out by Fly Research on behalf of Odeon in Telford, which has just finished a new refurbishment.

To mark the town’s 50th birthday, there will be special showings of The Shawshank Redemption, Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Annette Small, general manager at Odeon Luxe Telford, said: “As Telford rings in 50 wonderful years, we wanted to celebrate by giving local film fans the chance to see their favourite titles.”

Councillor Raj Mehta, Telford’s mayor, said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit the new cinema as they approach their final stages of refurbishment. It was fantastic to be able to learn more about the new development, view the expansion so far and meet with key staff members.”

“The Odeon has been a key establishment in our town for many years and this new refurbishment will most definitely give the cinema a new lease of life.

Classic

“It is always great to see businesses grow and develop in Telford and I am very excited to visit the cinema again as one of the many venues for the Telford Film Festival for Telford 50 this year.”

The refurbishment includes handmade recliners, 4K projection and Dolby Atmos 3D sound.

The Shawshank Redemption will show on October 24, with Back to the Future the day after. On October 29 fans will be able to watch Forrest Gump, with Pulp Fiction on October 30.

Harry Potter’s first adventure will be shown on October 31.

The Telford Film Festival has seen a variety of classic titles shown at venues across the borough.

To mark Halloween, Telford Shopping Centre will get a gory showing of cult classic Dawn of the Dead on October 20.

And The Wakes in Oakengates will show short film double bill The Code & The Doorman on October 27, followed by James Cameron’s Aliens on October 31.
