Sitting somewhere between sleazy grunge and power indie, Brummie rocker MeMe and her band release Soc Med Junkies on March 30, their tongue-in-cheek take on the modern obsession with handheld electronic access to the world.

Since her 2016 debut album Live To Love You'll Love To Live, MeMe has been pulling in fans with an infectious energy that is effortlessly cool. Here on Soc Med Junkies, she sounds at her roaring finest, a screeched chorus offsetting slick bass with attitude to spare.

To compliment the single release on MeMe's own label Soul Rock Central, the band also have an equally fun-poking music video online to accompany it, which can be seen here.

Speaking about her influence behind the track, former The Ticket Unsigned page star MeMe said: "Finding myself once again mindlessly scrolling through my social media feeds one day, I realised I had an overwhelming feeling of heaviness in my heart and realised it was due to all the negative c**p filling my eyes from my screen.

"I realised there's something seriously up with a large number of humans and their current constant 'need' to spend time on social media. I decided there and then my time could be much better put to use, put my phone down and picked up my guitar and notebook.

"Soc Med Junkies is a song about our addiction to social media and the positive outcomes that can be achieved just by taking time to step away and enjoy the 'real world'."

MeMe has been impressing on the live circuit for a few years now, picking up support slots for the likes of Dead Sea Skulls, Fun Lovin' Criminals and Asylums. She also graced the main stage at Moto GP, Silverstone, last year, The O2 Academy, Camden's The Dublin Castle and Jurassic Fields festival.

To celebrate the single release, MeMe Detroit will host a launch show under the Soul Rock Central banner with support from The Institutes at Birmingham's Actress & Bishop on March 29, the night before the single is out. Doors open at 8pm, with tickets costing £5 and available here.
