This year's production is Jack and the Beanstalk.

The local landlords Baron Tightfist and his wife want to put up the taxes and Dame Trot has not got a clue how she and her son Jack can eat never mind pay more.

But Jack gets a handful of magic beans from selling Buttercup, their faithful cow. With the help of Robin Hood, a gatecrasher from another panto, and four cheeky stowaway Brownies, will Jack defeat the Ogre and find fame and fortune and marry Lucy, the Baron's daughter?

The amateur dramatics group will be putting on four performances at the SpArC theatre, opening on Thursday evening at 7pm. They return the same time the following night, and for two shows at 2pm and 6.30pm on Saturday.

Shannon Guerreiro stars as young Jack, with Dave Crane a convincing Dame Trot. The Baron and Baroness are played by Dave Jones and Mary Austin, and David Marpole as the terrifying Ogre.

With the Castle Players promising "fun, frolics and general mayhem," you can be sure of more than a few laughs and a good sing song.

The group's February Panto has become an annual tradition and forms part of the town's Arts Festival, which runs from Wednesday to Sunday.

Tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for under-18s, available from the theatre or at sparctheatre.co.uk
