Cézanne - Portraits of Life is set to be released on January 23 and will be screened in the Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury and at Kinokulture cinema in Oswestry.

Directed by the award-winning Phil Grabsky, from Exhibition On Screen, the film uses the exhibition of the same name, which is currently on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London, as a base to uncover the story of the man credited with bridging the gap between Impressionism and Cubism, and heralding in a new generation of artistic tradition.

Mr Grabsky said: "When the film goes out in Shrewsbury and Oswestry, it will also be seen in 238 other cinemas across the UK, as well as another 59 countries around the world. People in Russia, Italy, New Zealand, Mexico, the USA and more will be sharing the same experience.

"When I heard about this huge exhibition on Cézanne, I knew I had to film it. For some people, it might be the only way to see the world of one of the world's greatest artists. The high definition it is filmed in is absolutely extraordinary.

The exhibition, which was first mounted in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and will travel to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC after London, brings together - for the first time - fifty Cézanne portraits - some of which have never been exhibited in the UK.
