Members of the Musical Theatre Production Company in Newport have been working hard on the finishing touches to their pantomime The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

And despite the snow and ice, the show must go on and Debbie Owen, who runs the group, said the cast of 15 have been working hard to make their show magical.

"The hall will be transformed into a professional stage set with scenery, props, lighting and effects to make the experience full of fun and laughter," she said.

"Children have been trained in the art of pantomime gags and timing, with wonderful voices and dance routines to make the community pantomime something for all the family."

The group ranges from five-years-old to 15 and included pupils from Newport schools including Burton Borough, Tibberton. Morfield, and the Wrockwardine Wood Arts Acedemy to name but a few.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz will have three performances at Cosy Hall.

They will take place on Saturday from 2.30pm and on Sunday from 2.30pm and 6pm.

Tickets are available by texting 07576 511971. Tickets cost £5 for children and £8 for adults.

Wizard of Oz tells the story of young girl Dorothy who is transported to the magical land of Oz.

She befriends the cowardly lion, the tinman and the scarecrow on a journey down the yellow brick road to meet the Wizard of Oz, who she hopes can send her home.

Deborah is a professional pantomime director, and she said light and sound is being produced to a professional standard.

The Musical Theatre Production Company's last performance was a summer pantomime version of Alice in Wonderland.
