Mr Challis, who lives near Ludlow, will be hitting the nation’s TV screens again in Spring as Monty, in ITV’s Benidorm. More than five million people will tune in to see his exploits in the Spanish resort.

He will also be on the road in spring with a 12-date, whistle-stop tour of his one man show, Only Fools and Boycie. It will feature at the Albert Hall in Llandrindod Wells on March 24 and at the Attfield Theatre in Oswestry on March 25.

Mr Challis has previously played and sold out much larger venues in the area – so tickets are expected to sell quickly. Today he said he was looking forward to being on the road and hoped plenty of fans would go along. He said: “I’ve been in showbusiness for more than 50 years and I’ve never been so busy. This year, I spent three or four months in Benidorm, filming the new show for ITV. I’ve got to tell you, it’s hilarious.

“Then I’ve been on the road throughout summer at various festivals and shows as well as doing an autumn tour.” Mr Challis said his show at Llandrindod Wells and Oswestry would give people the chance to find out more about what goes on on the sets of such programmes as Only Fools and Horses and Benidorm.

He would also tell them some remarkable stories about his life, including an incident when The Beatles met him and asked him to feature in The Magical Mystery Tour; an occasion when he played in Dr Who alongside Tom Baker; and several appearances on Coronation Street.

He added: “I’ve got some remarkable tales about all sorts of things – including, of course, Only Fools and Horses and Benidorm.

“So I’m looking forward to visiting two intimate theatres that are quite close to home. I’ll be meeting fans after the shows so there’ll be autographs and selfies as well.”
