The splash park in the Quarry cost more than £375,000 and opened last year and it has now been recognised as a world-class aquatic space in the annual showcase for excellence and innovation in aquatic facility design.

The state-of- the art facilities have been honoured by Aquatics International Magazine as one of ten Dream Designs from installations worldwide.

The design of the play area was chosen by Shrewsbury residents.

With a theme of “Darwin’s Island of Adventure”, children of all ages are able to enjoy the modern features and the facilities have proved to be a big hit with families from across the region.

Following a revamp of the children’s play area, traditional play equipment such as slides and swings, as well as fountains and water features have been incorporated into the design, replacing the old and under-used paddling pool.

Leader of the town council, Councillor Alan Mosley, said: “With a significant investment of over £375,000 from Shrewsbury Town Council, we are pleased that our exciting addition to the Quarry park has become a popular feature as part of the

facilities on offer within the town.

"This area of the park has seen a major rejuvenation and the play facilities incorporate many traditional features of a play park, together with the exciting and innovative designs of the Splash park, which have proved to be extremely popular with both residents and visitors alike.

"We are delighted that our Quarry Splash park has been recognised in competition with other facilities from across the world.”
