V Festival 2017: The Wailers - review

It may be the music of past decades but Bob Marley's music crosses the generation gap more than most.

The Wailers

The Wailers have taken over the mantle of performing it live and do it with great authenticity.

No gimics, no bringing things up to date, The Wailers took to the MTV stage to give a great musical performance of legendary hit after hit.

The Wailers

Buffalo Soldier got the crowd dancing and One Love got them singing.

It is incredibly, 36 years since Bob Marley died at the age of just 36. His lyrics and his music have come back into fashion time and time again...Or maybe they just never went out of fashion.

Those lyrics seemed never more poignant than today when the band quoted lines before each track with a simple message: If you love justice and hate aggression, you must show love.

After torrential rain the sun shone for the whole of The Wailers' set.

The Wailers

There were Jamaican flags in the crowd, Jamaican colours on the hats of the musicians and the blue sky and reggae sound brought summer back to the Shropshire/Staffordshire border if only for a short time.

Bob Marley fan, Mick Rankin from Stirchley Telford, who has the legend tattoed on his band said it was the best V Festival ever!
