The Lord Chamberlain's Men brings its unique Shakespearean entertainment to St Chads in Shrewsbury

The Lord Chamberlain’s Men had been scheduled to perform William Shakespeare’s 'The Comedy of Errors' in the grounds of Shrewsbury Castle last night.

But the plans were scuppered over fears that the rain that would wash out the performance.

Thankfully St Chad's Church, one of the town's most beautiful historic buildings, was offered forward to host the venue and prove very much that all the world is a stage.

There were some benefits to the change of venue with those attending no longer required to take their own chairs – although there was less space for the picnics.

The fantastical comedy follows two pairs of identical twins, Antipholus of Syracuse and Antipholus of Ephesus, and their servants, both named Dromio.

When they were babies, the twins and their parents were separated in a shipwreck; years later, as one half of the twins search for the other they unwittingly find themselves in the same city on the same day.

The Lord Chamberlain’s Men are famous for performing in historic venues around the UK and Europe, usually in the open-air.

The group performs the plays as they would have been done in the time of Shakespeare, with Elizabethan costume, music and dance and male actors playing all of the roles.
