Tom Barras set up Future Fest last year to give young musicians the opportunity to play in front of an audience.

The 16-year-old is now looking for talented youngsters to take part this year on September 3.

Tom, who runs Sunflower Music, which aims to encourage live music in the area, said: “We are delighted that The Bear Inn Bridgnorth came forward to host the event – it’s definitely one of the best music venues in the town and they are massive supporters of live music in the area.

“We had eight great acts in 2016 ranging from jazz to rock and we even managed to get an original song written by Steph PJ for the event recorded and played on BBC Introducing. We already have a lot of interest for this year’s Future Fest but I’d still like musicians who want to be considered for a spot to get in touch.”

Musicians interested in performing should get in touch with Tom via his Facebook page Sunflower Music.

Tom also arranged the musical entertainment for the town’s street festival.

He added: “This year Future Fest will be supporting a couple of charities, The Bridge Youth Centre and Hope House. The standard last year was very high and its looking even better for 2017.

"Whilst the performers will be under 18 everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy some great and varied music. We hope lots of people will support the area’s younger musicians.

"There is no entrance fee but we hope people will put some money in the buckets which will be divided between the two very worthy charities.”

Tom, who plays several instruments, is currently waiting for his GCSE results and is planning to go to King Edwards Sixth Form in September.

He said: “One way or another I plan to make my career in music whether performing, producing or managing.

"It’s been a busy summer so far, performing, putting a band together, organising events and I am particularly looking forward to working back stage at Farmer Phil’s music festival later this month.

"Music is not what I do it’s what I am.”
