Double delight for gardeners as plant shows come to region

On Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30 a brilliant line-up of top nurseries will be showing off their wares . It’s just the right time to pick up some late flowering plants to give your garden a boost and the nurseries will have just the right plant to set your summer garden ablaze with colour and add a sparkle to a shady spot, plus lots of expert knowledge on hand to help you choose the best for your particular and unique garden.

On Saturday, July 29, the popular Plant Hunters’ Fair returns to the National Memorial Arboretum, at Alrewas, DE13 7AR from between 10am and 4pm with a wide choice of quality, nursery-grown plants. This plant fair, featuring some of the country’s most highly respected nurseries and growers, has become a firm favourite with garden lovers.

Martin Blow, of Plant Hunters’ Fairs, said: “It’s the time of year when gardeners want to top up the colour in their beds, borders and patio containers and you can be sure of finding some really exciting plants with something for every garden and plant lover.

“Because all our nurseries are personally selected, plant lovers will find a great choice of interesting and unusual plants backed up by honest, expert advice. And of course, entry to the Arboretum and plant fair is completely free. What more could you want on a summer’s day?”

Then on Sunday, July 30, there is a great new summer event at the British Ironwork Centre near Oswestry, with the entrance fee going to the Hope House Children’s Hospices.

Martin added: “Our spring plant fair at this fabulous venue has quickly gained a reputation as the place to come to find all that is best in garden plants and was a brilliant success, raising £2,346.30 from the £1 entry donation, with all this money going to help the essential work of Hope House Children’s Hospices.

“We have a brilliant range of nurseries coming from near and far and a line-up carefully planned to give the best range and diversity of plants possible and we’re hoping for a similarly enthusiastic response to this new event.

“Not only will visitors be able to get expert advice on plants straight from the growers but we are pleased to welcome well-known plant health expert Dr Steve Reynolds who will be holding his famous drop-in What’s Up Doc? plant clinic at the event – no need to make an appointment to see the doctor just turn up and drop in with a sample or photo of a plant, flower, fruit or vegetable pest, disease or disorder and Dr Steve will do his best to come up with a solution.

“With entry to the plant fair at just a £1 donation, why not bring your friends and family to make a day of it.”

The British Ironwork Centre always has something new and different. There will be plenty of tea and cake on offer and hot food as well.

There is lots of free parking right next to the fair and dogs on leads are welcome. Bring the kids as the centre is full of quirky attractions to thrill and entertain them. The venue can be found on the A5 at Oswestry. The fair runs from 10am – 5pm on Sunday 30th July.
