There will be a selection of children’s giant garden games available on the garden paddocks throughout the summer holidays at Dorothy Clive Gardens, near Market Drayton.

Starting on Monday, families can enjoy games such as croquet, giant snakes and ladders and football.

There will also be a beetle mania trail, open air productions and an educational bat walk.

Julia Roberts, event manager, said: "Beetle Mania is a fantastic opportunity for families to engage with wildlife as well as learning specifically about beetles, other insects and the nature that lives within the garden.

"We will also have giant garden games available on our paddocks which can be enjoyed after completing the trail.

"Also Folksy Theatre will be performing their musical adaptation of Jonathan Emmett’s The Princess and the Pig."

The gardens are also hosting an educational bat walk on Friday, August 4 from 8pm to 10pm with the Staffordshire Bat Group.

They will have special bat detectors to allow visitors to listen out for bats as they fly around hunting for insects in flight. This is a ticketed event costing £5 but free for members. Booking is essential.

The Dorothy Clive Garden is open from 10am to 5.30pm, seven days a week throughout the main season from April to September and then weekends from October through to March, annually.

Admission is free for children under 4 and members, £2 for children between five and 17, £7.50 for adults and £7 for concessions.
