In Oswestry recently there was plenty of Joyful Noise when a local community Gospel choir paid a visit.

The Joyful Noise choir is encouraging people to consider joining its ranks and with the launch of a new TV show, Pitch Battle, at the weekend is expecting renewed interest.

The Joyful Noise Community Gospel Choir is based at Cabin Lane Church, Oswestry, but sees itself as a community and not a church choir.

David Bird, who leads the choir said: “We are a group of people of all ages, at present from ranging from 17 to 90.” We enjoy getting together on a weekly basis to sing together and, from time to time, share our enjoyment with others in the community.”

He said that no formal training or even an ability to read music is required to join the choir, simply an enjoyment of singing together. He said: “We meet to practise most Tuesdays, from 7pm to 8.30pm in the school term and are always looking to recruit new members. The choir does not wish to be defined solely as a gospel choir but embraces a variety of different styles of music.

“We sing at various local events with Christmas and Easter particularly busy times for us. In October, we’ll be singing at our first wedding.”

The choir will perform at the Cabin Lane Church on July 8 when they will be joined by professional performer Rob Halligan.

Tickets will be on sale at £7.50 from Cabin Lane Church and Oswestry Christian Book Shop.

Anyone interested can visit the choir’s Facebook page or go along to Tuesday practice evenings.
