Organisers of the Audlem Festival hailed the five-day bank holiday event as the "best" ever.

The festival, which started on Thursday, included music, exhibitions, poetry and a traditional carnival.

It once again brought some of the best musical and artistic talent to the village near Market Drayton.

The village’s pubs were also the focal point for music lovers during the course of the festival.

Ralph Warburton, chairman of the organising committee, said: "It has been absolutely fantastic – the best festival we have ever done.

"We had just over 80 performers playing in pubs, cafes, churches and the car park.

"We had fantastic weather for the first four days. Monday was cooler but the carnival was in full swing.

"We had no incidents, no problems and no one required first aid. It was really good weekend."

The Audlem Festival was first launched in 2000 as an idea by then resident Paul Moran.

Paul had moved to Audlem for some peace and quiet having lived in inner-city Manchester for the last 30 years. Paul was amazed that such a small village had so many talented and in many cases full-time professional musicians and artists.

Paul decided that the Audlem Carnival should join with musicians and artists to form a weekend of great music and art exhibitions combined.

It has since developed into an annual treat for music and art lovers across the country and attendances continue to grow.
