Shrewsbury operatic society appoints new director

A long-standing operatic society member has been appointed to his first role as director and choreographer.

Eric Pover, who has appeared on stage in many of Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society’s shows, will be producing Oliver! which has been confirmed as the group's next production at Theatre Severn from March 21 to 24, next year.

Brandon Corfield will continue as musical director and the society has a new accompanist, CJ Allen, who will also work as Mr Corfield's assistant.

The society is to hold a series of auditions for the production and the first will take place in the drama studio at Belvidere School on June 5.

Mr Pover is hoping to have two sets of children aged between six and 15. For any boy or girl interested, there will be a workshop and audition to join at Belvidere School on June 11 at 11am.

Auditions for the parts of Oliver and The Artful Dodger will take place on July 16 at Belvidere School.

Oliver! will be performed from Wednesday, March 21, to Saturday, March 24, each evening at 7.30 pm with a matinee on the Saturday 24 at 2.30pm.

Tickets for the show will be available from the box office at Theatre Severn, from September.
