The team behind Ludlow Medieval Christmas Fayre, held over a weekend at the end of November at Ludlow Castle, have announced that new attractions have already been pinned down for the event, including theatre, music and workshops alongside new seasonal stalls.

The news follows on the heels of Ludlow's Spring Food Festival, which saw visitors pack out the castle grounds to sample food and drink and see vintage vehicles last weekend.

Ludlow Medieval Christmas Fayre will be held on November 26 and 27 this year.

Prue Dakin, creator of the Fayre, said: "We wanted to create some new surprises for this year's festival, from entertainment to shopping, to keep the festival fresh and exciting and I'm pleased to say we've got some great treats lined up."

She said Paul Saunders, head of entertainment for the Fayre, as well as a musician and performer in his own right, had booked a whole raft of new acts for the weekend including Tryzna, a medieval music and dance group from Poland and Ukraine, Peterkin's School for Fools about all things jesting and Mister Tuck's Trumpets, a medieval-style brass band.

There will also be theatre with Swords, Sackbuts and Shakespeare, marking the 400th anniversary of the Bard's death with swashbuckling sword fights from his Wars of the Roses history plays, and pantomime with a special performance of Chanticleer and The Fox from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.

Returning will be the acclaimed BZ Ents with children's shows Dastardly Dick and What Ho Henry, both new to the festival.

Paul said: "I'm delighted by the range of new entertainment we've already secured for this year's Medieval Christmas Fayre on top of our returning regulars.

"Not only do we have great new music, theatre and live shows but we've also got a fantastic new range of workshops for all ages from music and instrument making to dancing.

"Plus there'll also be carols with the ever popular The Quire, a medieval nativity play from The Mysterious Crew, theatre and stories aplenty from The Shrewsbury Mummers, Discover History's Beastly Battles and Hands On History workshops and sword fighting from the stage by fight expert Peter Cann. Not to mention the Fayre's popular giant puppet Brother Sid and our regular circus skills workshops all weekend," he said.

On the Saturday night, the Fayre will once again be open late for fiery night-time revelry with jugglers, stilt-walkers, dancers and wandering minstrels lighting up the castle with entertainment, carol singing, wassailing, fire breathing and more.

More details will be announced later in the year.
