The iconic aeroplane will fly over the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury on Saturday, May 28, and organisers say the special guest is the "icing on the cake".

Show chairman, Neale Sadler, said: "We are delighted with the line-up for this year's Shropshire County Show, and the confirmation of the Lancaster Bomber flypast has really been the icing on the cake."

The plane is famous for its use in the Second World War and its prominent role in the 'Dambusters' mission. Mr Sadler said that alongside the appearance from the unmistakable plane, they are planning double the amount of main ring entertainment compared to last year's event.

The line-up will be headlined by nationally-acclaimed motorcycle stunt team Broke FMX, along with the Wirral Marching Piping Band, horses and carriages, dog agility and hawk demonstrations.

The show's Kids Zone will provide a variety of free entertainment for younger visitors, including a BMX track, the animal man, soft play and a hay bale maze, alongside the Taste of the Shires food hall which will showcase the region's finest food and drink.

Mr Sadler said they wanted to ensure the show embraced its background as a traditional agricultural event, while also looking to provide more interest for youngsters and families. He said: "We have made an effort to take the show back to its roots as a traditional agricultural show but with an extra emphasis on providing fun for all the family. The Kids Zone and Taste of the Shires food area were both really popular last year so we are delighted to welcome them back."
