She was born in the late 1990s, but Bridgnorth's Annabelle Pritchard says her heart is firmly in the 1950s.

The 18-year-old is a huge fan of rockabilly.

And her fashion is influenced by the period when rock and roll was just being born.

Now the teenager is hoping her striking style will give her the edge when she takes part in a beauty contest.

Annabelle lives in Alveley, near Bridgnorth, but because she hails from near West Bromwich she is eligible to take part in Miss Black Country in May.

She said: "The final of Miss Black Country promises to be a long day as we have to be there for 10am and the show doesn't begin until around 7pm.

"There are several rounds in the final, including evening wear and sportswear, but the most challenging is eco wear, because we have to make that outfit ourselves out of recycled products. I have an idea of what I want to do, but now have to turn that idea into an actual dress."

The Miss Black Country competition isn't the only high-profile event she has taken part in recently.

She said: "I did an audition for The X-Factor, where I sang Tainted Love, but I am still waiting to hear how that went.

"I am a huge fan of the 1950s and love rockabilly and swing music, as well as the clothes and the style of the period.

"I am really looking forward to the Miss Black Country final, but naturally I am a little nervous about it. But I will have a lot of my family there on the day, including my parents who are always supportive of the events I enter."

The final of the Miss Black Country Competition takes place on May 22 at the Copthorne Hotel in Dudley.
