The new owner of The Ice Lounge, formerly The Ice House and Minnesota Fats, said he wanted to boost the night-time economy in the town.

Dale Lloyd, operator and general manager, took over the club in June and is spending £250,000 to revamp it.

Mr Lloyd said: "Since taking over the site in June, a lot of investment and effort has gone into creating a stylish and quality venue.

"Time and effort has been spent listening to our customer requirements and needs to create the venue. I'm 31 now, so when I was 18 I used to come down here a lot.

"I'm looking to bring the good old days back to Oakengates. It is a place people can go for a good night out for good value."

The 600-capacity club will reopen tonight at the Eden complex in Canongate. The club reopening is part of a three-phase redevelopment continuing until spring 2014.

A second phase will see another smaller bar which will act as a second room for the nightclub that can also be rented out.

The renovation will aim to make the complex a total entertainment hub – consisting of a 1,000-capacity nightclub and function room with adjoining Sports Bar, Pool and Snooker Centre.
