Frank Turner proved he needed nothing more than his guitar and a selection of story-filled songs to enchant a partisan audience at Wolverhampton's Slade Rooms.

The folk/punk artist took to the stage earlier than planned at the venue much to the delight of fans.

He kicked off the night with songs I Knew Prufrock Before He Got Famous, followed shortly by Try This at Home.

During the evening he belted out a full range of tunes which told tales of travel, politics, fun-filled summer evenings and friendships.

He also sprinkled the set with some new tracks, soon to be released on his next album, which hits the shops in around two weeks.

Throughout the night his presence filled the room as he sang out lyrics with passion and energy. His guitar skills left one bystander exclaiming "he's a legend".

The NME-award-nominated singer/songwriter may have been performing in front of a sell-out crowd but he played as if he were still in his local pub with some friends and a pint by his side.

Fans clapped and sang along with some draping their arms around their neighbour's shoulders swaying to the music, making for a joyous occasion.

Turner showed appreciation to everyone who had come out on a Sunday night to listen to his tunes and insisted they all take part in the show.

One entertaining moment saw audience members instructed to pick up imaginary harmonicas and play along to tune Dan's Song.

He also had time to banter, joke and share experiences with the crowd as if they were nothing more than a group of long-time pals.

Turner, previously a member of the group band Million Dead, is no stranger to the stage. He has played multiple times at Glastonbury Festival as well as touring venues across the globe.

His hard work seems to be paying off and getting him more recognition by the mainstream, though that has not stopped him from doing what he seems to love to do best, perform.

A fantastic night that will not be forgotten.
