House of Fraser, on High Street in Shrewsbury, which had been trading as Rackhams, has undergone a major renovation which has seen new flooring laid, improved lighting and the enlargement of a number of departments.

The womenswear, menswear and beauty departments have all undergone radical transformations while windows have been exposed to allow more natural light in to the store.

A new cafe has been created which will be serving afternoon teas, cakes, breakfast and lunch.

Several new lines which have not previously been available in the town have been introduced including Origins and La Mer along with Hobbs, Oui, Gant, Barbour Lifestyle, Hal Huber, Tommy Hilfiger and Dune Shoes.

The shop dates back to the Della Porta Department store which traded on this site from 1926. It was purchased by Hide & Co in 1948 but still traded as Della Porta. In 1975 it was purchased by House of Fraser which rebranded it Rackhams although it now trades as House of Fraser.

Heather Owen, Shrewsbury store manager, said: "We're extremely proud of how premium our newly refurbished store looks. We have created a department store that Shrewsbury can be proud. We've listened to our customers and introduced new brands which locals want to see in their department store. We've also created a modern premium shopping environment whilst being sympathetic to the store's history and heritage.

"I would personally like to thank everyone who has been involved in this project, and to thank our customers during this time. House of Fraser Shrewsbury now offers customers a more premium shopping experience and has become a talking point amongst locals and visitors to the town."
