Dave Edwards aim is to stay fit for new year

Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards today revealed his one new year’s resolution: To stay fit in 2012.

Edwards is finally healthy again after what he describes as a “wretched” 2011 that almost brought his career to its knees because of a serious back complaint which kept him out for six months and then a groin injury.

“The aim of 2012 for me is just to stay fit after such a wretched 2011 with injuries,” said the former Shrewsbury star and Welsh international.

“If I can do that, hopefully my football will be good and I can stay in the team. I’m looking forward again.”

When Edwards played 90 minutes against Wigan on November 6, it was the first time he’d completed a full Premier League game since Chelsea on January 5.

And he was delighted to get 45 minutes at Bolton and then a further 76 against Chelsea on Monday.

“I was ill over the Christmas period and didn’t travel to Arsenal, but that might have been a blessing in disguise,” he said.

“It meant I could have an extra couple of days off to heal my groin injury.”

After all he’s been through, Edwards is more than happy to be competing for a place in midfield following the arrival of Emmanuel Frimpong and Eggert Jonsson.

“Eggert trained with us before the Bolton game and he looks to be a tidy player,” he said.

“And with Manny as well, it’s just healthy to have competition for places.

“I’m sure their arrival will help everyone out”

Reports today claimed that both Wolves and QPR had lodged bids of around £2.5m for Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha.
