Emmanuel Frimpong today roared out a Wolves survival war cry after declaring “I like to fight and be involved in a battle”.

The 19-year-old enforcer was set to make an immediate Molineux debut against Chelsea this afternoon after signing on loan from Arsenal for the rest of the season.

And the powerful midfielder, who has a reputation for tough tackling, wasted no time in announcing his intentions.

“I want to be involved in a battle – that’s what my game is about so being where we are is nothing new for me,” said the Ghana-born, Tottenham-raised midfielder, who has played 14 games for Arsenal this season.

“I’m a player who likes to fight and do everything for the team to win.

“I’m going to bring that spirit to the team and hopefully we can climb the table.

“It’s been a quick step up and I’ve learned a lot.

“Hopefully I can carry on doing that and bring something different to the squad here.”

Wolves’ ability to act quickly in the transfer market again appears to have paid off with Frimpong’s capture.

Several Premier League rivals were chasing Frimpong, with Villa, QPR and Fulham linked before he signed for Mick McCarthy’s side.

But it’s understood that the deal for the on-loan Gunners ball-winner was agreed some time in the middle of last week, after the 1-1 draw between the teams at the Emirates, which Frimpong tellingly wasn’t involved in.

“It’s been talked about for a couple of weeks that I might go on loan,” said Frimpong.

And McCarthy was delighted with Frimpong’s capture and said he was hoping for more signings.

“Manny Frimpong is a really great signing,” he said.

“He’s a terrific young player. He’s an all-action, tough-tackling midfielder who can pass it.

“I’m delighted Emmanuel is available because we need fresh players.

“We’ll be continuing to try to get players in but I’m delighted with the business we’ve done so far.”
